International Year of Sound 2020-2021 Newsletter (Αcoustics projects for the Frontiers for Young Minds Program)

Dear members of HEL.IN.A.,

Please read and disseminate the following message that concerns acoustics projects for the Frontiers for Young Minds Program to commemorate the International Year of Sound 2020-2021. Those who are interested in participating as "Science Mentors", please refer to the instructions that follow.

The call for suggestions on acoustics projects for the Frontiers for Young Minds Program (https://sound2020.org/news/a-world-of-sound-to-encourage-kids-into-science/) has been successful and there is a plan to publish 25 articles in the Special World of Sound Collection. This was proposed  by the United Kingdom Acoustics Network (UKAN) to commemorate the International Year of Sound 2020-2021.  Frontiers for Young Minds (FfYM) is an international journal for children aged 8 to 15. All articles submitted to FfYM are peer-reviewed by Young Reviewers who, in turn, are assisted by Science Mentors.

This is where your help is needed!

Can you please follow up with anyone in your organisation who is familiar with the peer review process and has an interest in helping children grow as scientists?

"Science Mentors Introduce their Young Reviewers to the concept of peer review, assist them in navigating through a cutting-edge science manuscript, and empower them as young experts to provide feedback to authors about communicating science to their peers."

Each Science Mentor will work with one or two Young Reviewers to help them review the submitted manuscripts. Review is likely to begin in May as articles are likely to be published in the collection from 1st of May and will continue as they are submitted.

Science Mentors can choose to work for this collection only, or to be entered onto the shared list of FfYM's Science Mentors and be approached by any of the 300 editors about other articles that need reviewing.

More information is available from https://kids.frontiersin.org/participate/editors-and-mentors and please ask anyone interested in participation in this project to contact charlotte.swain@acoustics.ac.uk - by 1 May

Thank you in advance for your time!
