The Institute

The HELLENIC INSTITUTE OF ACOUSTICS (HELINA) was found in 2002 with the aim of bringing together Greek scientists who are active in acoustics academically, professionally or in a research capacity. The Institute was established in order to contribute towards the advancement of this scientific field in Greece and in order to cooperate with similar Institutes in Europe, America and Japan. In this way, HELINA will assist in the spread of knowledge and experience existing in this field, as well as in the evolution of novel concepts and ideas.
From its initiation, the HELENIC INSTITUTE OF ACOUSTICS has been a member of the European Acoustics Association (EAA), which has enthusiastically greeted its creation. Recently, HELINA joined the International Commission for Acoustics as well.
The headquarters of HELINA was initially located in Athens, but after 2006 it was moved to Heraklion (Crete). It is also planned that branches will be created in other Greek cities. Furthermore, HELINA is also in the process of creating a number of groups within the Institute, addressing specific themes, in accordance to the practice adopted by many major Institutes existing in other countries.
To become a member of HELINA it is first required to complete the appropriate application form and send it electronically to papadeli@mus.auth.gr.
